Using notes

When you can't tell which digit goes where, jot down the candidates instead. Press N to toggle Notes mode — your number presses become small candidate marks instead of filling the cell.

Read the notes

The cell highlighted in amber has notes for 2, 5, and 7. That means: based on the row, column, and box constraints right now, only one of those three digits can go there. Once you eliminate two of them, the cell solves itself.

Workflow

  1. 1. Press N to enter Notes mode.
  2. 2. Click a cell, then press its candidate digits (e.g. 2, 5, 7).
  3. 3. Press N again to leave Notes mode and start filling real digits.
  4. 4. When you commit a real digit to a cell, its notes are cleared automatically.
